SilverCORD: The Future Begins Now

A couple days ago, I reached a milestone (the first of many, Lord willing): the premiere release of SilverCORD!  It was the result of many hours of work, over the past five weeks, which was pretty difficult to pull off, since I have a full-time software engineering job.  But the end result is that INCH's class registration website is easier to use and much easier for me to maintain and expand.  The goal is to market SilverCORD to other homeschool co-ops and small schools, before the start of the next school year.

"What is SilverCORD?" you ask?  It is the database system I developed to provide online class registration, account management, and other useful features to small schooling organizations that would not otherwise be able to afford such a system.  I use primarily PHP, Javascript, and HTML, but I am also looking into newer technologies, such as Silverlight and mobile apps.

Still Plugging Away

Here I am, playing with my new webcam, at Wisdom's Beginning's Corporate Headquarters (aka "our unfinished family basement").

As you might have guessed from my lack of posts, I haven't had much time to devote to the launching of my software business. My spare time is largely spent doing technically-oriented volunteer work. For the past year, I taught a Control Systems class at Gonzaga University, taught LEGO Mindstorms robotics classes at INCH and area libraries, and continued to maintain INCH's two websites.

My software enginnering job at Agilent Technologies came to an end at the end of April, but the Lord lined up a new one for me, at Monaco Enterprises, only a few miles away.  So needless to say, I've been very busy learning the new ropes.  I really enjoy the work, and I'm learning so much every day, but I still hope to one day become a full-time, self-employed software developer.

Until that day, I continue to prepare the registration site to serve other co-ops and small schools.

Coming Full Circle

Welcome to the blog for Wisdom's Beginning!

Ironic how this blog has come full circle. When my wife started blogging, she convinced me to start my own blog. Searching for a clever, but Biblical title, the Lord brought Proverbs 9:10 to mind: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Rephrasing a portion of this famous verse, I got Wisdom's Beginning. I put up a couple posts and, while my wife got totally into blogging, I lost interest.

Fast-forwarding half a year found me inspired to convert our long-running Christian website into a blog. So Wisdom's Beginning became!

Fast-forward another six months. The success of the online registration site I created for our homeschool co-op inspired me to market it as the flagship product of a new personal business venture. But what to call my new business? "Wisdom's Beginning," with its hint at education, was a perfect choice! I created a less-than-bare-bones website but was already enamored with Blogger's ease of publishing online content.

Finally, two seasons later, I created this very blog, to provide customers and visitors with updates and allow for easy interaction.

As this business gets off the ground, I will feature more information about Wisdom's Beginning's products and services. To be notified of new posts or to ask a question, please leave a comment below.
